This module explores the concept of dual use chemicals, their use for legitimate and prohibited purposes, the three Schedules of chemicals listed in the Annex on Chemicals of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), and discrete organic chemicals and why they are subject to reporting and verification under the CWC.
A pass grade of 80% in the Final Test is required to obtain a Certificate.
Learning objectives
After completing this module, learners should be l be able to:
- explain the mission of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and its importance in preventing the use of chemical weapons
- understand the concept of dual use chemicals and how they can be used for both legitimate and prohibited purposes
- identify the three Schedules of chemicals listed in the CWC's Annex on Chemicals and explain the differences between them
- describe potential non-prohibited uses of scheduled chemicals, such as in medical or industrial applications
- define what discrete organic chemicals are and why they are subject to reporting and verification under the CWC
